Trip to the Past

Celebrating the 60th Independence Day of Korea, Gwangju National Museum opens an exhibition called 'Trip to the Past' to show the result of archaeological research in Honam. This special exhibition focuses on showing academic resources obtained from excavation and research in 2001 to 2004 to scholars and local residents.

Gwangju National Museum opens a special exhibition to have understanding of Indian history and culture and experience Indian art and ways of life from the 28th July to the 28th August. India is a huge country in Asia and has eternal history and culture. Especially Buddhism came through Central Asia and China and hugely influenced the development of Korean culture.
Imitation of Goguryeo wall paintings

Gwangju National Museum opens a special exhibition and lecture about Goguryeo wall paintings from the 28th March and the 17th April. It aims to criticize China's North-eastern project, encourage developing understanding of Goguryeo history and culture and show fabulous Goguryeo culture.

Gwangju National Museum opens a special exhibition of Joseon landscape paintings for 2 months from the 23th September to the 21st November.
Exhibition of Popular Lives in Old Photograph

A special exhibition called "Exhibition of Popular Lives in Old Photographs" opens from the 29th June to the 25th July. About 100 pieces of photographs in this exhibition were taken in various places such as Seoul, Gangreung, Ulreung, Geoje or Busan from 1950s to 1970s and show the public's lives and scenery of their habitation sites.
Special Exhibition of 'Oh Jiho, a Painter Drawing Light'

For the 20th funeral anniversary of Oh Jiho, a great artist of Korean modern art, Gwangju National Museum exhibits 48 pieces of his artifacts from the 26th July to the 31st August. Mountains and fields of Jeollanam-do and beautiful ports of Yeosu and Mokpo, one of main theme of his paintings, will give new impression about Korean beautiful landscapes to the public and artists.
Yang Paengson(1488~1545) and Paintings in Early Joseon Age

Gwangju National Museum opens an exhibition of "Yang Paengson(1488~1545) and paintings in early Joseon Age" from the 15th April to the 30th April. We expect that this exhibition may be a good opportunity for local residents to know a famous artist in this local area and learn about Honam paintings.
Exhibition of Joseon Genre Picture

Gwangju National Museum opens a special exhibition of genre paintings of the Joseon Dynasty from the 8th October to the 10th November. Genre paintings mean the paintings which describe ceremonies, festivals, religious, livelihood and other traditional culture. Through this exhibition we expect to give an opportunity to remind not only professionals but also the public of the meaning of traditional culture.

Celebrating 2002 World Cup, Gwangju National Museum opens an exhibition of 'Exhibition of Honam Arts' to show fabulous culture of Honam from the 29th May to the 14th July. This exhibition shows 190 pieces of objects such as stone tools, earthenware, bronze tool, celadon and paintings and we hope it will be helpful for having understanding of culture of Honam.
