Maehwa blossom that blossoms as pictures

2009-01-22 ~ 2009-03-29 Gwangju National Museum opens the special exhibition, "Maehwa blossom that blossoms as pictures", commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Korean Museums in the New Year. This exhibition shows both of them, "Masterpieces of Jeoson Dynasty and Works of modern artists". We wish the citizens to smell the perfume of maehwa blossom that blossoms as pictures.
Rainbow Gwangju - The city of eternal culture

2008.09.12 ~ 2008.12.28 Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Gwangju National Museum and 2008 as the Year of Visiting Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, Gwangju National Museum opens 'Rainbow Gwangju, the city of eternal culture' from the 12th September 2008 to the 28th December 2008. The exhibition shows compilation of Gwangju which is dramatically developing as a cultural city. It is expected that this exhibition gives an opportunity to find out core of culture and cultural DNA of Gwangju.
'200 years of Sochi Heoryeon, a great artist of Namjong Painting'

Mission: Commemorating the 200th anniversary of a painter called Sochi Heo Lyeon (1808~1893), it aims to show his Namjong Paintings in the Joseon Age
Location: Exhibition Room 1, 2, 3 of Gwangju National Museum
Objects: Approximately 150 pieces including Heo Ryeon's landscape paintings.
'Social Culture of the Joseon Dynasty from Literature'

Gwangju National Museum opens an exhibition called 'Social Culture of the Joseon Dynasty from Literature' from the 23rd May to the 22nd June. The main objects are 148 objects which were donated by the Lees, a family of Lee Shin-ui and shows the noblemen's actual lives. This exhibition may give a good opportunity to see lives of the Joseon Age and their wisdoms.
'Steppe and Oasis' Exhibition of photography of central Asia

The objects are photographs which were took during curatorial researches about many Central Asian countries such as Uigur in China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from 1993 to 2007 for 15 years by members of The Korean Association for Central Asian Studies(KACAS) We hope this exhibition gives good opportunities to meet specific history and culture through the photographs of nature of the Central Asia, various remains and objects of cultural exchanges, and religions and lives of various ethnic groups living there wisely.
'Rebirth of National bronze heritages', excavated from Daegok-ri, Hwasun

Gwangju National Museum has an exhibition called 'Rebirth of National Bronze Heritages' about bronze heritages excavated in Daegok-ri of Hwasun, which made us surprised twice in 1971 and 2008, from the 15th April 2008 to the 12th May 2008. This exhibition aims to provide the fruit of the excavation including objects to the public. It will be a good opportunity to get any information about remain of Daegok-ri in Hwasun that the bronze heritage of the 143rd national heritage was discovered.
Stupa, Our beautiful Towers', our cultural heritages from photos

Korea has various kinds of stupas such as stone stupas of the Three-Kingdoms Age, which followed the style of wooden stupas, twin stupas of the Unified Silla Age which is magnificent and polished, stone stupas of the Goryeo Age which had local style, stupas of the Joseon Age which maintained wooden stupas.

'The Voice Calling Sunshine and God', Bronze national heritage from Daegok-ri

We open a special exhibition about the 143rd National Heritage bronze objects excavated in Daegok-ri in Hwasun from the 26th November 2007 to the 2nd March 2008. Total 11 pieces of bronze objects were discovered and most objects are mirrors, bells and daggers which shows culture of Korean Type Bronze Daggers
