  • 내용 Celebrating 2002 World Cup, Gwangju National Museum opens an exhibition of 'Exhibition of Honam Arts' to show fabulous culture of Honam from the 29th May to the 14th July. This exhibition shows 190 pieces of objects such as stone tools, earthenware, bronze tool, celadon and paintings and we hope it will be helpful for having understanding of culture of Honam.

The Fruit of Archaeology of Honam
  • Period 2000-12-19 ~ 2001-02-28
  • 내용 The excavated site had various objects from the Paleolithic Age to the Unified Silla Age. Many objects including 'Potteries with eggplant design' excavated from Goheung and Byeolgyo, 'Liaoning type bronze daggers', 'Tomb with ditch' in Hampyeong and Gochang, 'Bronze ritual implement with bird design' from a pit tomb in Su-dong in Yeonggwang were found. Photographs and models of the excavation work are displayed to help visitor's understanding.

Exhibition of Beautiful Geumgang Mountain

  • 내용 This exhibition is designed to show Geumgang Mountain. Korean people have sublimated the beautiful scenery to art and literature. As a result, there are various kind of art of Geumgang Mountain such as Buddhist art, paintings, celadon and literature. In this exhibition, the theme is divided into Belief, Jingyeong, sightseeing, enjoying and photographic panels of main temples around Geumgang Mountain are displayed for better understanding.

영산강의 고대문화
Ancient Culture of the Yeongsan River

  • 내용 This exhibition is to conclude whole results of archaeological excavation of the riverside of the Yeongsan River which was done for 80 years. Total 250 pieces of objects including a gilt-bronze crown which is the 295th national heritage excavated from the 9th tumulus in Sinchon-ri, Bannam, Naju from the 8th December 1998 to the 7th February 1999.

Exhibition Industrial Art with Silver-thread Decoration

  • 내용 Celebrating '97 Gwangju Biennale, "Exhibition Industrial Art with Silver-thread Decoration" organized by National Museum of Korea is exhibited in Gwanju National Museum to show Korean traditional metal craft from Three-Kingdoms Age to the Joseon Age to domestic and international visitors. Total 120 pieces of objects are exhibited from the 25th August 1997 to the 12th October 1997.

부여 능산리 출토 금동향로와 사리감전
Golden censer and reliquary from Neungsan-ri, Buyeo

  • 내용 We display 'The ancient gilt-bronze incense of burner of Baekje', the 287th national heritage from Neungsan-ri in Buyeo in 1993 and pagoda preserving relics of the Buddha, the 288th national heritage to have understanding of the flow of history and arts of Baekje. Granitic pagoda preserving relics of the Buddha which is displayed with 'The ancient gilt-bronze incense of burner of Baekje' was excavated from Simchoseok, Moktapji, Neungsanrisaji and are considered that younger sister of Changwang, a son of King Seong, made it to pray for the response of her father who died tragically. The exhibition opens from the 30th April to the 26th May 1996.

Exhibition of Korean Modern Paintings

  • 내용 This special exhibition aims to show the progress of development of Korean paintings from modern paintings to current paintings. We chose about 90 pieces of objects from of representative painters in the late of Joseon Age such as Heo Ryeon, Heo Hyeong, Heo Baekryeon, Jang Seung-up, Lee Haung, An Jungsik, Jeon Ki, Jeong Cheol and Min Yeong-ik. The exhibition is from the 19th Septermber to the 5th November.

The exhibition is from the 25th October 1994 to the 26th November.
