| Jeollanam-do Province is renowned for Goryeo
celadon production. Jeollanam-do Province
is the place where many kilns for Goryeo celadon
and Joseon Buncheong ware and white porcelain
can be seen. Therefore, Jeollanam-do Province
holds a significant meaning as a production
site for the Goryeo celadon and Joseon Buncheong
ware and white porcelain.
The Goryeo celadon gallery demonstrates
the process of how to produce porcelain
and how it took on the many different forms
we see today.
One of the most representative types of
porcelain of the Goryeo age is celadon.
This age up to the end of the 11th century
is generally regarded as the early stage
in the development of celadon, which displays
the dark brown and greenish brown colors.
From the end of the 11th century, Goryeo
celadon could be seen in the beautiful color,
jade green. It also began to take on wonderful
shapes with soft glaze and curved lines,
making itself different from that of China.
The surface of exterior decoration reached
its peak with the introduction and refinement
of the inlay technique. The inlay technique
is that first, you carve a pattern on the
surface and then stuff the pattern with
the red and white soil. This inlay technique
is a typical decorative technique for Korean
ceramics, and it is a testimony to the creativity
of Goryeo pottery.
